Chicago is our home, it’s where we’ve raised our kids and where we’ve built a business around supporting the community in times of trouble.

For us, braving the Windy City’s weather is who we are. Need a winter weather update from a trusted meteorologist? We’re there. Snow and ice layering your sidewalk? We’re there. Out of town and hear a big winter storm is working its way to your business and you need a layer of deicer? We’re there.

So when word came around that one of our own was entering the ultimate battle, we could only do one thing….be there.

Tovar Snow Professionals Snow Soldier Sharon Giovingo’s teenage daughter was diagnosed on April 12 with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a cancer that affects the bones or nearby soft tissue.

“As the Dr [sic] delivered the news to Emily, I was amazed with her strength and maturity,” said Giovingo in a recent Facebook post on the community page, Warriors For Emily, rallying for her support.“She did not break down, but instead asked intelligent questions about the treatment and months ahead. At that moment I knew she was going to face this head-on and fight this cancer.”

Emily is now eight weeks out from her diagnosis and continues to endure chemotherapy twice a month. Her stays at the hospital are usually two days long on the first week and five days long on the third week. She begins radiation in August in addition to the chemotherapy until February.

As a result of her treatment, she’s lost her hair, but has handled it, as her mother says, “with grace and humor,” despite having to take sabbatical from school, leaving her passions like dance and choir. But, she is hopeful s hopeful to return to school in time for second semester 2017, completing her Junior year.

In effort to lift spirits and ease the financial burden caused by hospital bills and medical treatment the community has gathered to host a carnival for Emily on July 30th at Snow Angels Farm.
Complete with BBQ, balloon animals, caricatures, pony rides, a magician, an auction and a raffle, the event is open to all ages and hopes to raise a $3,000 for medical expenses and support and is already close to that goal.

The $5 admission includes a meal and one raffle ticket, children under 15 years old can attend for free.
